The Durham School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance’s aim is to provide a safe space for the cultivation of creativity through dance.
DSBCD is an award winning studio, achieving the highest awards and accolades throughout Ontario and Internationally. DSBCD Director Madeleine Twyman trained at The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City. Madeleine later received additional post-secondary training at The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in NYC. After living as a professional Artist/dancer in New York City for 13 years Madeleine has had the privilege of dancing with many professional modern dance companies, including The Martha Graham Ensemble, Forces of Nature Dance Theatre of Harlem and Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn. Madeleine was recently honoured to be awarded The Outstanding Choreography Award at The Youth America Grand Prix 2019 in Toronto.
DSBCD is recognized not only for their superb training grounds and high calibre faculty, but also for continually working with youth groups and not for profit organizations in Canada, The United States and India to help facilitate a global growth in positive social change.
